BugBopper Now Completely Free!

For a limited time, the anti-malware scanner BugBopper will be completely free, its developers announced today.
BugBopper.com has announced that its flagship product, BugBopper, is now completely free. BugBopper is a malware scanner using unique and innovative methods that ensure maximum speed and the highest detection rate of any product. This free version includes all available functions. “We believe that our most important mission at this time is to get our product into the hands of new users,” said Dr. David Stang of BugBopper.com, “and eliminating the price barrier seemed like a good idea.”. The length of the free offer has not been determined, and Dr. Stang said that pricing, previously ranging from $19 to $29 for 1 to 5 machines, may also change in the future; he did not rule out keeping the product free indefinitely.
The BugBopper product has always been free to download and use, to scan and detect malware. Removal of any detected malware previously required purchasing a license, now included free, and enabling all program functions. Because the product interacts with the BugBopper.com servers and database to provide host-side analysis of previously unknown executable files it finds, registration using a valid email address is still required. BugBopper states that the registration information is used only for this purpose, and is never shared with any third party.
A new release of BugBopper coincides with the free pricing offer, and includes, along with the free licensing model, enhanced functionality of the Analysis Log. This log, which lists suspect files uploaded for analysis, automatically displays the results of analysis, typically within minutes. With the new functionality, any malware detected is automatically added to the Scan Log, simplifying removal without requiring a re-scan. Dr. Stang noted that “BugBopper’s instant analysis of previously unknown files is, we believe, the most promising approach to the infamous zero-day problem. Conventional scanners depend upon file signatures, and cannot detect novel threats until after they have made their way into and through the research pipeline; BugBopper finds them immediately, using powerful (and proprietary) automated host-side analysis tools that would be impractical to include in a desktop product.”
