McAfee Acquires Advanced Sandboxing Technology to Improve Anti-Malware Solutions
McAfee is determined to make some serious improvements to its anti-malware technology. This is why the security firm has acquired LynuxWorks’s ValidEdge sandboxing technology in an effort to broaden its portfolio.
In addition, the company has made more than 30 malware-focused product enhancements to some of its products.
The sandboxing technology acquired from LynuxWorks can seriously boost the efficiency of a product. That’s because all suspected malware is run in this sandbox to see how it impacts an endpoint.
Based on the malicious element’s behavior, future attacks will be automatically blocked. The solution will also provide signature information to McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) so that it can automatically clean up already infected devices.
The over 30 anti-malware improvements have been made in products such as the McAfee Network Security Platform, McAfee Web Protection, McAfee Email Protection, McAfee Enterprise Security Manager, McAfee Real Time for ePO, and McAfee Deep Defender.
For instance, McAfee Network Security Platform has been enhanced with “signature-less” threat detection and prevention technologies, deep file analysis, a powerful anti-malware engine, and strong botnet prevention.
Web Protection now includes capabilities to identify sophisticated malware that’s capable of dynamically changing in the browser in an effort to remain hidden.
“McAfee has been investing in technology to help our customers protect against malware for 20 years. We are now extending our lead in malware protection by continuing to invest in new products and product enhancements,” said Pat Calhoun, senior vice president and general manager of network security at McAfee.
“Point products can’t provide adequate protection against these advanced attacks, which is why McAfee is delivering an integrated, multi layered, managed solution that provides comprehensive malware protection across endpoints and networks.”
This new sandboxing technology will be integrated into McAfee products in the second half of 2013.
