Summary

McAfee Avert Labs is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of our Engine Component Update Technology Preview.
With the 5000 series AV Scan Engine, McAfee Avert Labs introduced the ability to provide incremental component updates to the engine. These updates allow for faster integration of the enhancements needed to combat advances in today’s malware. The technology and processes involved in incrementally updating the AV Scan Engine are very similar to how McAfee Avert Labs currently provides incremental updates to the DAT files.
The Technology Preview of this functionality will appear in the 5201 Engine Update, which will be available through the ServicePortal on December 6th, 2007. See KB40531 for information on downloading this elective download from the ServicePortal. An ePolicy Orchestrator 4.0 package will be posted for elective download only via the ServicePortal. The package will NOT be included in any automatic update processes nor on any of the standard manual download sites. Only four products currently support AV Scan Engine Component Updates:

• GroupShield for Lotus Domino 7.0
• GroupShield for Microsoft Exchange 7.0
• PortalShield for Microsoft SharePoint 2.0
• VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i

Once the Engine Component Update is deployed to these products, the AV Scan Engine will reinitialize for the update to take effect. Once this is done, these products will report that they are now running the 5201.3073 AV Scan Engine.
The 5201 Component Update will provide enhanced support of detection and repair for Office 12 documents as well as improved .ZIP file support.

McAfee Avert Labs is making this Technology Preview available with the goal that our customers will deploy the update to a limited number of test systems and provide feedback or concerns about this new technology and how it may impact their companies. McAfee Avert Labs also asks its customers to answer a survey, whether or not they do any testing within their environments. This survey will help us to understand our customers’ ability to use Engine Component Updates in the future and any impact, positive or negative, that they may encounter. 用Grant Number去官方下载区看了看 暂时还没有 不过相信不久了
