There is no real way for us to decrease the download size unfortunately. In the end, the database alone takes up 95% of these 200 MBs. Reducing the database size will ultimately mean removing signatures and therefore decreasing the detection rate. We do offer a small installer, that ships without any signatures and is less then 20 MB in size, but in order to use the product, you will have to download the signature database through the online updater first. So it doesn't save you anything in the end.

We do have several points of presence in China. The license check will still be done on our European servers, but at least the downloads should be served by the Chinese/Asian download servers of our CDN provider.

The problem is mostly due to the large host block list. We are currently in the process of cleaning up a lot of dead entries that should result in much improved load times for the GUI.

We actually do use our cloud (Emsisoft Anti-Malware Network) for detection purposes. We just don't use it in on-demand scans but only as part of the realtime monitoring.
