Kaspersky Lab Int. launches daily updates of their anti-virus database
And it's free for all AVP users!
Cambridge, UK, March 15, 2000 - Kaspersky Lab Int., an international anti-virus software vendor, announced a new outstanding service aimed at providing its customers with the most effective and immediate protection against all types of computer malware. Beginning from March 20, Kaspersky Lab offers all AntiViral Toolkit Pro (AVP) users FREE DAILY updates of their anti-virus database.
"The protection anti-virus software provides is only as good as the frequency of its anti-virus updates. Kaspersky Lab is one of the first in anti-virus industry to offer its users free daily updates of their anti-virus database. Most other vendors only offer the option to update weekly," - stated Eugene Kaspersky, head of anti-virus research at Kaspersky Lab, - "Daily updates alongside the world's best anti-virus engine will provide AVP users with the most effective and immediate defence against all types of computer malware".
From now on Kaspersky Lab offers THREE types of anti-virus updates: daily, weekly and cumulative updates. Weekly updates include all previously released daily updates. In its turn cumulative updates include all previously released weekly updates.
"We are very pleased to offer our customers daily updates of our anti-virus database. We constantly improve the quality of our services and this new initiative is just yet another testimonial that Kaspersky Lab is the most innovative and progressive software company offering its customers not only the world's best anti-virus protection but the best customer service," - said Natalya Kaspersky, Kaspersky Lab's CEO.
The daily updates can be downloaded manually from Kaspersky Lab's WWW site.

Kaspersky Lab Strikes Another Blow Against Viruses
Kaspersky Lab presents Rapid Virus Response - a new technology for updating anti-virus databases. Kaspersky Lab, a leading information security software developer, presents Rapid Virus Response. This new technology enables the user to automatically download updates for Kaspersky® Anti-Virus databases over the Internet every three hours. This significantly improves the level of protection against new virus outbreaks. Up to 300 new viruses appear every day. Viruses are not constrained by geographical boundaries or time zones, and can spread throughout the world in a matter of hours. Therefore, the importance of updating anti-virus databases regularly in order to ward off new attacks cannot be overestimated. The new service from Kaspersky Lab - the release of regular updates every three hours - is a worthy counter move to new information security challenges. The 'treatment modules', which contain information on how to protect against new malicious programs will be made available at midnight, 3am, 6am, 9am, 12 noon, 3pm, 6pm and 9pm GMT. The updates can then either be automatically or manually downloaded. Unlike many other anti-virus companies, Kaspersky Lab conducts thorough preliminary testing of updates in order to rule out the possibility of false alarms generated by data which is known to be safe, and also to enable maximum compatibility with commonly used software and hardware. Testing is carried out on a pool of high-end test servers, with over 100 gigabytes of data. This ensures that updates will function reliably with all popular platforms and applications. Along with regular updates, Rapid Virus Response also offers the user unscheduled additions for Kaspersky Anti-Virus databases. This offers a lightning fast reaction to new global outbreaks: protection against malicious programs is released within 30 minutes of virus activity being detected. Kaspersky Lab has always been a leader in terms of the frequency with which the company releases anti-virus database updates. In 2000, it was among the first anti-virus companies to release daily updates, while other anti-virus manufacturers were updating their programs weekly at best. 'Over the past few months the intensity at which virus outbreaks appear has become much more frequent. Consequently, we had to release three or four emergency updates rather than the more usual two. The move to three-hourly regular updates therefore seems totally justified. The new system will be convenient for users of Kaspersky Anti-Virus throughout the world as it is not tied to a specific time zone', said Denis Zenkin, Head of Corporate Communications for Kaspersky Lab. 22 Dec 2003 | |

Kaspersky Lab - responding even faster to new virus threats
Kaspersky Lab now updating antivirus databases every hour
Kaspersky Lab, a leading information security software developer, announces the launch of a unique new service: hourly antivirus database updates. Up until now, antivirus database updates have been released every three hours for downloading via the Internet.
Over the last five years, the number of malicious programs which Kaspersky® Anti-Virus databases detect has increased almost 80 times. This is due to the fact that up to several hundred new viruses appear every day. In 2000, 63 updates were released; in 2001 - 205; in 2002 - 652; in 2003 - 818; and this year more than 1500 antivirus database updates have already been released. Kaspersky Lab virus analysts estimate that by the end of 2004 at least 5000 scheduled updates will be released.
Alongside scheduled updates, Kaspersky Lab also releases additional urgent updates for antivirus databases. These updates are a rapid response to virus epidemics, providing protection within 30 minutes of threatening virus activity being detected.
