Many of us like to use browser extensions. We use them because sometimes they make our lives easier on the Internet with tasks involving things like translation, shopping, and searching. In the last couple weeks, we’ve monitored the rampant spread of browser extensions that display unwanted advertisements so that we can protect and warn you about them. Learn more on our blog.

Science @ Avira, the ITES project
Science projects help us to prepare for the future of Avira. One example is the ITES Project, where we experiment with Sandboxes, Sensors, and Virtual Machines. The project started two years ago and will be completed by the end of this year. Check out this blog post for a sneak peek into the future of computer architecture.

Tips and tricks on how to improve smartphone battery life
Tips and tricks on how to improve smartphone battery life
Although not all things were better in the past, mobile phone batteries definitely were. The classic Nokia and Samsung phones, which you could only use to make calls, would easily last for up to two weeks in standby mode. These days, you’ll be lucky to get a full 24 hours of battery power from one of the latest smartphones. This is due to improved and more powerful components, countless additional functions, and the energy consumption of dozens of apps. That said, even the most heavily used smartphones can have a longer battery life if you follow a few simple tricks.

Results for September’s Question of the Month
Last month, we asked you how you manage your security settings on Facebook. 3,100 of you responded, and the results are included below.
I regularly manage and check them. – 37.74%
I’ve changed them once. – 20.75%
I know about them, but I haven’t changed them. – 13.21%
I didn’t know that I can change security settings on Facebook. – 28.3%
While many of you have manged Facebook’s security settings at some point, it’s important to note that over 40% of you either haven’t changed them or didn’t know that you could change them. With that in mind, this is a good time to remind you to go to the Settings section of your Facebook account so you can review what’s there. Pay particular attention to the information in the Security, Privacy, Timeline and Tagging, and Blocking sections. You’ll probably be surprised by how much you can control.
We hope that you enjoyed reading our newsletter, and please feel free to share the information with your friends.
