  116. INSTALLATION

  117. Read the following notes before you upgrade to
  118. the 5800 Anti-Malware Engine:

  119. 1.VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i Patch 5 and Hotfix
  120. 1038699 are required for VSE 8.7i to install the
  121. 5800 Anti-Malware Engine

  122. The 5800 Anti-Malware Engine is signed with a
  123. newer certificate that is not automatically
  124. trusted by VSE 8.7i. McAfee will release Hotfix
  125. 1038699 to update the digital certificate
  126. information for VSE 8.7i. This issue only
  127. applies to VirusScan 8.7i. It does not affect
  128. VirusScan 8.8 or Endpoint Security 10

  129. VSE 8.7i Patch 5 and Hotfix 1038699 are required
  130. on all VSE 8.7i systems before you can
  131. successfully upgrade to the 5800 Engine.

  148. __________________________________________________________
  149. ENGINE END-OF-LIFE (EOL) PROGRAM

  150. Your Anti-Virus software is only as good as its last
  151. update!

  152. Updating your DAT files and Anti-Virus Engine regularly
  153. is essential and a MUST!

  154. Sometimes architectural changes to the way that
  155. the DAT files and Anti-Virus Engine work
  156. together make it critical for you to update your
  157. engine: an old engine WILL NOT catch some of today's
  158. threats.

  159. McAfee Labs recommends having as part of your
  160. Security Policy Program, an Engine Update process to
  161. take advantage of the latest technology and stay
  162. protected!

  163. THE PROBLEM

  164. Thousands of new detections are added to the
  165. DAT files daily by McAfee Labs. If you are not
  166. up-to-date, you are vulnerable to any one of them
  167. that gets a foothold in the field (also known as "in
  168. the wild").

  169. McAfee Labs releases regular DAT files,
  170. ensuring that full protection is added to all McAfee
  171. products. The DAT files contain the information
  172. required to detect and remove threats - what to look
  173. for and where to look for it.

  174. However, today's threats are evolving almost on a
  175. daily basis. Software providers continue to make
  176. changes to operating systems and applications that
  177. can change the way a program acts or works, and a
  178. Anti-Virus program may not understand the
  179. changes.

  180. THE SOLUTION

  181. Taking this into account, McAfee regularly
  182. updates its Anti-Virus Engine used by ALL McAfee
  183. virus-detection and removal products. The
  184. engine understands all the different structures in
  185. which a virus could lurk - EXE files, Microsoft
  186. Office files, Linux files, and so on. Occasionally
  187. these changes require us to make significant
  188. architectural changes to the engine as well as the
  189. DAT files.

  190. McAfee Labs strongly recommends that users of ALL McAfee
  191. Anti-Virus products update the engine in the
  192. products they have deployed as part of a
  193. sound security best-practices program.

  194. THE ENGINE END-OF-LIFE PROGRAM

  195. To ensure protection from the evolving malicious code
  196. threat, users should update as soon as possible upon
  197. the release of McAfee's latest Anti-Virus Engine.

  198. Engines begin their End of Life Process once a new
  199. Engine version is released. Upon release of the new
  200. engine version, the previous engine will be supported
  201. for at most an additional 6 months, at the end of which
  202. you will not be able to receive any further support on
  203. the previous version.

For Consumers products, the Engine is delivered as part of dat content. When we decide to RTW the Engine to Consumers, it will be part of that days dat update (without any mention of Engine version number within the product).
对消费者产品来说,引擎会作为dat文件的一个部分进行推送。当我们决定对消费者产品进入RTW阶段时,更新会作为当天dat更新推送。但不会单独提示版本号的更新。

Win7 --> Win10 users running the McAfee Consumer product will get the 5800 Engine.
在使用win7到10系统的个人版用户将会收到5800引擎更新。
