We’d like to take a moment to clarify a few things regarding the recent updates to our ESET HOME subscription bundles. Due to changing priorities and ongoing product evaluations, we’ve made some adjustments to the features included in different tiers.
Most notably, ESET Ransomware Remediation is now available in our highest-tier offering: ESET HOME Security Ultimate and ESET Small Business Security. We're also excited to share that ESET HOME Security Premium will soon receive an additional feature — more on that in the near future as part of our B2C offering update. We're still evaluating whether Ransomware Remediation will be included in that tier as well, and we’ll keep you informed as decisions are taken.
We understand that some users view ESET Ransomware Remediation as a key defense tool — and while it can be a valuable safeguard, it’s important to know how it works:
This feature activates after ransomware-like behavior is detected by Ransomware Shield. If a malicious process encrypts files before it’s stopped, Ransomware Remediation steps in to try and restore what was affected.
That said, our primary line of defense is actually in preventing ransomware from ever running in the first place. This is handled by our powerful pre-execution protection technologies — which are included in all of our products, from ESET HOME Security Essential to ESET HOME Security Ultimate (inc. the products under these tiers, such as: ESET Internet Security, and ESET Smart Security Premium and ESET Security Ultimate). Additionally, post-execution protections like Advanced Memory Scanner, Deep Behavior Inspection, Exploit Blocker, and Ransomware Shield are standard across the board, providing strong safeguards even if threats manage to slip through the cracks.
We also agree with some of your insights: tools like ESET Folder Guard offer an added layer of protection and are not reliant on behavioral detection — which makes them a great complement to our existing suite.
Ransomware Protection Is a Shared Responsibility
To help you stay secure, here are a few best practices we strongly recommend:
Back up regularly – Keep offline and/or cloud-based backups of critical data
Stay updated – Ensure your OS and applications are fully patched
Use trusted security software – And keep it fully enabled
Be cautious with email & links – Don’t open attachments from unknown sources
Secure your network – Use firewalls and segment your network when possible
Educate yourself and your team/family – Awareness is a powerful form of defense
Disable unnecessary macros – Especially from emailed documents
Use strong passwords & MFA – Protect access to your devices and accounts
Limit admin rights – Only give elevated access when absolutely needed
Monitor network activity – Early detection can stop an attack in its tracks
