What's new for Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.4?

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 14.4
New Web Console
In Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) 14.4, a new web console replaces the Java-based console as the default console. The new web console also supersedes the legacy web console.
The Java-based console has operational challenges for customers who need to manage the console remotely. Previously those customers would need to deploy remote desktop products to manage the console when not logged directly into the SEPM server.
The new web console UI maintains almost the exact same look and feel as the Java console so there is no learning curve to overcome. The UI includes a few minor visual changes but nothing that changes the user experience.
You should also expect a slight improvement in console performance.
If you use a network with no web access or limited web access, you can continue to use the classic Java console to log on locally. However, the remote Java console is no longer supported.

Peer-to-Peer Content Distribution
You can now configure your endpoints to share content updates between agents. Content updates contain information like virus definitions and behavioral rules. By allowing devices in the network to distribute LiveUpdate content to their peers, agents can conserve bandwidth and can preserve resources.
Group Update Providers (GUPs) cannot be enabled when Peer Content Distribution is enabled.
When you enable the Peer Content Distribution option in the LiveUpdate policy, the agent takes the following actions:
Tries to get update installation packages from peer agents
Caches the update packages for use by other agents
Advertises package availability

Enhancement to Adaptive Protection
In the Adaptive Protection policy, you can now click the event count that is shown for a particular application behavior. The events page appears to help you quickly investigate those application behaviors and help you determine that you can safely change or apply the policy.

Enhancement to Linux KMOD functionality
The SEP Linux agent requires the use of a kernel module that is deployed to the Linux operating system to support protection functionality. In this release, SEPM now reports the kernel module version that is deployed on a device within the client detail page. This enhancement makes it easier for you to determine what versions of the SEP KMOD are deployed within your environment.
You can also now use LiveUpdate to upgrade the SEP Linux kernel module.
Client and Platform Updates for Version 14.4
SEP 14.4 Windows agent no longer supports Windows desktop versions 8 and 8.1.
Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 are no longer supported.
SEP 14.4 for Linux supports RHEL 10.
Removed Features
The Java-based console is no longer the default console. The 14.4 web-based console is now the default. The 14.4 web console also replaces the previous web console.
If you require the Java console for a network with no web access or limited web access, you can access the classic Java console from the Start menu.
The remote Java console is deprecated and no longer available.
