今天收到的邮件。大意是会加入跨版本升级功能,但可能只对09版本有效,例如09版的16.0.0.111可以通过LU程序升到16.0.0.112,这在08里面是不行的,还有就是NIS09的测试好像快要结束了
Hello JORDAN,
We’re e-mailing you to tell you a few things regarding the Rolling Thunder (Norton Internet Security 2009) project.
New Build
If you restarted your computer today, chances are that Automatic LiveUpdate updated you to ET10 (build 112).
If you didn’t receive the update, you will need to follow specific instructions as the new build will not be available for direct download on the ET website.
There are two ways that you can acquire the new build:
LiveInstall – You can run the installation for the ET9 build from a command prompt using this command:
NIS2009_ET9_b111.exe /LUHOST liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com /LUPATH externaltest
During initialization, it should detect a new version of the software on the LiveInstall servers. It will then download the new build and install the new version.
LiveUpdate – We’re testing a new feature of LiveUpdate that will allow you to download new product versions directly from our LiveUpdate servers. This would help customers stay up-to-date with the newest version of their software.
To install with this method, simply select Run LiveUpdate from the Main User Interface.
To verify that you are using the newest version, go to Help & Support from the Main User Interface, and click on About. The version number should be 16.0.0.112 if you downloaded the updates successfully.
We hope that with these two new methods of retrieving new builds, that we can provide the most up-to-date protection for those who install the 2009 products.
Testing Near Complete
We only have a couple weeks left of testing. We would like to address all the defects that you find in the software. To help us quickly get your issues submitted, be sure to include the following in ALL of your reports, and the reports you have assigned to you:
- Exact Steps to Reproduce from Installation
- Short Detailed Summary (Detailed, but straight to the point)
- Screenshots
- Log Directory (see details below)
- Kernel Memory Dump (required only for Blue Screen [BSOD] errors – see details below)
- Crash Dumps (required only for Symantec Framework/ccSvcHst/Application Crashes that are due to Rolling Thunder- see details below)
Attaching these files to your report will help us to be able to have your defects submitted to the team as soon as we receive them.
Do not wait to submit your issues. If you have a problem you need to report, please do it AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Logs
Logs are located at the following locations (depending on your Operating System):
Windows XP – C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NortonInstaller
Windows Vista – C:\ProgramData\NortonInstaller
Please compress this ENTIRE directory to every report. If one set of logs covers multiple reports, you can upload to one report, and reference that report in your new report.
Kernel Memory Dump
By default, Windows is only configured to have a small memory dump. You should manually configure your computer to write a kernel memory dump in case of system failure. By default, the full memory dump will be located in your Windows folder, and will be called "MEMORY.DMP".
Windows XP:
Go to the "System" portion of the Control Panel (Shortcut: Windows Key + Pause/Break), then Click on the "Advanced" tab. Under "Startup and Recovery" click "Settings". Click the drop-down menu under "Write debugging information" and select "Kernel memory dump".
Windows Vista:
Go to the "System" portion of the Control Panel (Shortcut: Windows Key + Pause/Break), click "Advanced system settings", then Click on the "Advanced" tab. Under "Startup and Recovery" click "Settings". Click the drop-down menu under "Write debugging information" and select "Kernel memory dump".
Crash Dumps
Here are the instructions on creating a crash dump file:
Windows XP:
1) Download and install the debugging tools from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx
Current Release version 6.7.5.1 - July 3, 2007 http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols/debuggers/dbg_x86_6.7.05.1.exe
2) Double click the file and install with default settings
3) Open the Command Prompt (Start, Run, type “cmd” and press “OK”)
4) Within the command prompt type, “cd c:\program files\debugging tools for windows” and press “Enter”
5) Within the command prompt type, “windbg –I” and press “Enter”
A prompt will appear informing the user “WinDbg was successfully installed as the default postmortem debugger.”
6) Press the “OK” button
7) Reproduce the defect
Once an error occurs, the Windows Debugger window will appear and ask the user to “Save Workspace?”.
8) Press the “Yes” button
The debugger will open and guide the user to a command prompt.
9) Within the command prompt type, “.dump /f c:\dump.dmp”
The status of the crash dump will be listed within the command console.
Once completed, the command console will inform the user.
10) Open Windows Explorer (Start, Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer) and navigate to the “C:\” drive.
11) Within the root of the drive, a “dump.dmp” file will be available.
12) Zip the dump.dmp file to reduce the file size before submitting.
Windows Vista:
Do the following steps when the program crashes, but before you close it:
1) Launch Task Manager
2) Click the "Processes" tab
3) Right click the "Image Name" of the file you wish to create a dump for and select "Create Dump File".
With this information, we will be able to resolve these issues quickly. With the end of testing just around the corner, it is important that we work as quickly as possible to get these issues resolved.
