New features since the last release of F-Secure Internet Security Technology Preview (ISTP) include:
- Boot-up optimization
Some of the components that are active during the boot-up phase have been re-designed to be less CPU intensive. This should result in faster boot-up time.
- Several processes removed
The functionality of the following processes has been merged into one new component – FSHDLL32.EXE: FCH32.EXE, FAMEH32.EXE, fsaua.exe, fsus.exe, and fspc.exe. This frees up memory and reduces the total thread count. Also the process fsessrv.exe has been removed. The end result is 5 processes less compared to the previous ISTP release.
- Scanning performance improvements without sacrificing security
F-Secure's multi-engine protection has been upgraded to offer faster malware scanning and smaller memory usage while keeping the detection rate on highest possible level.
- System Control renamed to DeepGuard
System Control name was changed to DeepGuard. The functionality is still the same.
- DeepGuard protection improved
DeepGuard now protects F-Secure services from being stopped. Also protection against controlling browser with OLE and DDE commands has been added.
- New Spam-Control engine
This product release includes a new improved spam-detection engine, reducing the memory footprint, retaining high detection rates. Some features are not yet included in this release:
- Microsoft Office Outlook is not supported in this release, but support for it will be provided as a part of upcoming releases.
- Black-and-White listing is not included in this release, but will also be included in an upcoming release.
- Phishing protection is not included in this release.
- Some configuration options for Spam-Control in user interface are not functional in this release.
- User Interface improved
The new user interface now replaces the old user interface completely and is the only way to access the product. It will be opened from the systray menu, the Start menu, the Windows Sidebar widget and Windows security centre in all localizations. Also the appearance of the User Interface has been updated, and more functionality has been added (such as for example showing more component statuses, overall system status and selecting firewall profile). The Advanced User Interface has also been updated, and options for configuring Browser Protection (ExploitShield and SafeWeb) have been added.
- New validation/database updating dialog
After the initial installation, a new license validation dialog will appear. In addition to license validation, it now also launches the Parental Control setup wizard and informs about downloading and installing the initial databases.
- Performance Security Control limits changed
The existing performance security control limits have been changed from 256 to 512 Mb. This means that if the product is installed on a machine with less than 512 Mb, some features (such as Parental Control, Spam Control, Enhanced Process Monitoring) will be turned off by default.
New Network based Parental Control engine
The parental control engine includes new technology that replaces local databases with network lookups. The amount of data available in the service will increase over time, but initially the detection rates can be expected to slightly drop. |
