Russian President Dmitry Medvedev visits Kaspersky Lab in Moscow



Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, hosted the inaugural meeting of Russia’s Commission on the Modernization and Technological Development of the Economy. The company's CEO and co-founder Eugene Kaspersky took part in the commission’s first meeting which was chaired by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

The commission focuses on ways to promote the modernization and technological development of the Russian economy. The participants also discussed a number of organizational issues related to the commission’s work. It was decided to address the five priority areas of energy efficiency, nuclear technology, space and communications technology, medical technology, and information technology.

“We are proud to be the first Russian IT company to host a meeting on the future of Russia’s economy at the very highest level,” said Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky Lab. “I am convinced the future belongs to those who are not afraid to sell their high quality products on the international market. Our company’s experience worldwide proves that Russian manufacturers are perfectly capable of succeeding on the international market.”

President Medvedev stressed the importance of motivating Russian manufacturers to produce high quality goods in Russia and for Russian citizens. “Only then will our products be bought throughout the world,” said Dmitry Medvedev.

The commission members include First Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov, Minister of Education and Science Andrey Fursenko, Minister of Industry and Trade Victor Khristenko, President of Sberbank German Gref, head of the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation Anatoly Chubais, and the president of ONEXIM Group Mikhail Prokhorov.

The Commission on the Modernization and Technological Development of the Economy was established by presidential decree on May 20, 2009. It is responsible for developing state policy for the modernization and technological development of Russia’s economy, coordinating the work of federal agencies, executive bodies, local government authorities, and entrepreneurial and expert communities. The commission will meet on a monthly basis.
