FRISK Software has released F-PROT Antivirus for Windows 6.0.9.2
6.0.9.2 contains a new version of our antivirus scanning enginewhich improves handling and support of 'container' and archive formatssuch as Nullsoft self-extracting archives and ACE and 7-Zip archives,as well as “solid” RAR archives. The heuristic detection engines havebeen improved in general and have introduced a new technology forgeneric IFRAME exploit detection and features improved Javascript filescanning.
Finally, the new scanning engine includes a number of smallimprovements, better performance, fewer false positives and an improveddetection rate.
Version 6.0.9.2 also fixes an issue with Windows Security Center inVista SP1/Windows7, corrects the "office-plugin always enabled" bug andcontains a number of stability fixes for FPAVServer, Tray icon andFPWin executables.
The time has come, at last, toannounce the release date of FPAV Windows 6.0.9.2. There have beenfurther improvements added to the list i previously posted in thistopic, so here's the final list:
- Updated way of communicating to Windows Security Center (Action Center in Windows 7).
- Fixed: Office plug-in, which is the main culprit for slowdowns concerning MS Office documents.
- Improved event logging, made to focus harder on potential issues.
- Fixed: The issue with F-PROT's file system protection turning off on some systems.After finally encountering this issue on our end, the improved eventlogging already introduced helped us to locate the source of theproblem and fix it.
- New scanning engine, version 4.5.0, is now included to update the scanning technology for the File System Protection, Manual scanning as well as FPScan.
- A few other minor adjustments
So what is new in in engine 4.5.0? Here are just a few things:
- Scanning inside NSIS (Nullsoft) installer files
- Generic IFRAME exploit detection
- Numerous additions to the Eldorado heuristic engine, making it significantly more powerful than before
- Scanning of 7-Zip, ACE and "solid RAR" archives
- Improved scanning of JavaScript files
- List of detected malware now includes Eldorado heuristic detections
- Much faster initial loading of ANTIVIR.DEF
- Full Unicode support (FPScan in Windows)
Usersthat have the Internet Update version will receive this updateautomatically. Although the updated file system protection driverrequires restarting the computer on Windows 2000 and XP, the olderdriver will still function properly until restart. Vista and upwards donot need a restart, but Windows Installer may ask you to if youdownload the MSP below and update manually.
