Is there any way I can update directly from the Avast build before 5.0.39, to this latest build? I skipped the previous one because of all the problems people were having, but Avast still wants me to update to that build, so is there any way I can skip that build and directly update to this latest build?

The recommended way is to uninstall avast free build 5.0.39 and then install ais 5.0.259 as the installer changed quite a lot.
