New Update Notificati
ons - Build 18.0.0.109
Hello All,
We're going to be testing out a new method we've developed to help keep users up-to-date with the latest version of our Norton products.
As you know, Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus are subscription based services. Because they're subscription based, all subscriptions from 2006 and newer are eligible for free updates to the newer versions for the duration of their subscription.
We're testing a method of communicating the downloading the latest build automatically, and testing the way the product will communicate with you that a new version is ready to inoh okstall.
In the next day or so, those of you who are running Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiVirus 18.0.0.107 will see a message similar to the message below:
When you see the above message, you can click Start to seamlessly install build 18.0.0.109.
We hope that with this feature, we can communicate much clearer that we provide free product updates for these products and can help eventually get users of the 2011 products in to the 2012 products (and beyond!). This way, ALL users will have the latest and greatest protection!
This product utilizes the Automatic Download of New Version option in Miscellaneous Settings that is currently on by default. This way, the option can be disabled, but of course it's recommended that the option is left on to take advantage of the latest and the greatest.
FAQ:
Q: Is there a way I can force the product to download the newest build manually?
A: No. This test utilizes a background task to check with our server to see if a new build has been posted. This task will only run in the background.
Q: I haven't received the update and it's been over 24 hours.
A: Make sure you're connected to an external power source and not on battery power, as this job is optimized to not run on battery power to help preserve power. If you're still having problems, or the last suggestion wasn't applicable to you, make sure you have build 18.0.0.107 installed. You can verify this by launching the Main User Interface for the Norton Product, clicking on Support on the top-right corner, and clicking About. If you're running an older build, be sure to uninstall your current build and download the new build from the Norton Update Center.
Q: Where is the installer downloaded to on my computer?
A: Here is the location that the files are downloaded to before installing:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Norton\ - and then a sub-folder within that folder.
Windows Vista \ Windows 7: C:\Users\Public\Downloads\Norton\ - and then a sub-folder within that folder. Cheers,
Tim
