The test cases listed below have been created as guidelines for you when using and testing the beta version of BitDefender Total Security 2011. Your feedback related to the way BitDefender works when following these test cases will have a higher priority when evaluating you for the Beta campaihn winner list. Nevertheless, we encourage you to to run any test case you might think of and unique and interesting feedback related to other use cases will be greatly appreciated. Ultimately, the main goal of BitDefender 2011 Beta campaign is to test the product in a real-world environment. Installation and Configuration Wizard Test Cases Test Case 1 – Install and Configure
1. Start the installation
2. Cancel the scan process
3. Cancel the installation after the scan process
4. Wait for about 10 seconds
5. Start the installation
6. Go through all installation and configuration steps and choose the options you need.
7. Choose to register the product (use license key listed below)
8. Installation finished
9. Go through the product and verify if your options have been set correctly
10. Check the validity period
Test Case 2 - Uninstall
1. Uninstall the product
2. Check that all BitDefender files & folders, registry keys and shortcuts are removed from your computer (search for BitDefender on the hard drive and in the registries)

B7XZXZO | Product Registration and Activation Test Cases Test Case 3 – Register Product
1. Click the “License Info” link from the bottom of BitDefender window or go to Expert View, select the Registration tab and then click the “Register Now” button.
2. Insert in the license key field the license key listed below.
3. Click the “Register Now” button and observe the Registration status.
4. Click “Finish”, go to Expert View->Registration tab and verify if your license key is displayed in the section Registration Information.
Test Case 4 – Activate Product
If you didn’t create or sign in to an account at installation then follow the next steps:
1. Go to Expert View, select the Registration tab and then click the “Activate Product” button.
2. If you already have a BitDefender account, click on the “Sign In” tab, enter your account information and click “Submit”. If you don’t have a BitDefender account, click the “Create New Account” tab, enter your e-mail address, password and the other requested information, and then click “Submit”.
3. Verify the product activation status.
4. Click “Finish”, go to Expert View->Registration tab and verify if your account is displayed in the section “Registration Information”.
5. If a new account has been created, go to your e-mail Inbox, verify if you have received the confirmation e-mail from BitDefender and confirm the validity of your account by clicking on the link in the confirmation e-mail.

| Active Virus Control Test Cases Test Case 5 – Check for False Positives
1. Check if the BitDefender Active Virus Control scanner is enabled:
a. Switch to Advanced mode;
b. From the left column select the “Antivirus” tab;
c. Within the Antivirus tab select the “Shield” tab;
d. Click on “Advanced Settings”;
e. Select AVC tab and make sure that the Active Virus Control is enabled and that the “Alert me before taking an action” check box is checked
2. Use your favorite applications/games to check if Active Virus Control falsely identifies these applications as potentially malicious. E.g.
• Open one of the MS Office applications, write a few words and save the document;
• Open a game and play for a few minutes;
• Check your mail;
• Install applications of any kind
3. In the Active Virus Control Settings window, AVC tab, change the level of detection by using the slider. Repeat step 2.
Test Case 6 - Performance Check
1. Verify if the applications you used in Test Case 5 step 2 start slower if you have Active Virus Control active (compared to not having it active). You can verify this by timing the applications start time with a stopwatch.

| Intrusion Detection System Test Cases Test Case 7 - Checking for false positives
1. Check if the BitDefender Intrusion Detection System is enabled:
a. Switch to Advanced mode;
b. From the left column select the “Antivirus” tab;
c. Within the Antivirus tab select the “Shield” tab;

1. Switch to Advanced Mode.
2. Go to Antivirus->Virus Scan. Select the Deep System Scan task and click on Run Task.
3. Check the functionality of the Pause, Stop and Cancel buttons.
4. At the end of the scan check the summary displayed for inconsistencies.
5. Click on View Log and check that the log is not malformed.
Test Case 10 - Performance
1. Run 3 or 4 Full system scans in a row.
2. Verify if the scan speed, measured in files/second, is increasing after the third scan.

| User Interface Test Cases Test Case 11 – General User Interface
1. Check that UI launch time is reasonable (e.g. less than 1 seconds) for each window and dialog
Test Case 12 - Product Settings
1. Open the Preferences window by clicking the Options button and choosing Preferences.
2. Change settings in the Settings window and check if they are changed in the main window too.
3. Verify if the settings modified at step 2 have been applied. E.g. Disable the Antivirus and try to execute an eicar virus test file (Eicar can be downloaded from www.eicar.org It is not an actual virus and no harm will be done to your computer if you execute it).
Test Case 13 – Basic>Fix all issues wizard
1. Switch your BitDefender UI to Basic View.
2. Verify if the View All Issues button displays upon click the View All Issues wizard.
3. Verify that after you run the wizard, the View All Issues button has disappeared and the status is green/Protected.
Test Case 14 – Basic>Security
1. Verify the Security options functionality (run each of the options listed under this category).
Test Case 15 - Basic>Tune-Up
1. Verify the Tune-Up options functionality (run each of the options listed under this category).
Test Case 16 - Basic>My Tools
1. Verify the My Tools options functionality (run each of the options listed under this category).
Test Case 17 – Intermediate >My Tools
1. Switch your BitDefender UI to Intermediate View.
2. Click on Configure My Tools button from Dashboard tab and configure Quick Tasks and Settings (choose your favorite options)
3. Check that all the selected My Tools items work, clicking on each of them.
Test Case 18 – Intermediate> Fix issues wizards
1. Right click on the system tray icon and choose “Basic Settings” option to open BitDefender interface.
2. In “BitDefender 2011>Preferences”, select each option from “Security Settings” tab to OFF and click OK.
3. Switch BitDefender UI to “Intermediate View” and open “Security” tab.
4. Check that all issues have a red icon, and a “View & Fix” button.
5. Check that “View & Fix” button opens “View All Issues” wizard, and after you click on “Start” button, the issue is fixed and it has a green icon.

| Performance Optimizer Test Cases Test Case 25 – Performance Optimizer
1. Select the Intermediate View, the Tune-Up section and click on the “Performance Optimizer” task
2. Start a new application and check it is added in the list
3. Close the application from the close button
4. Check the details of one or more applications by clicking on the process name link
5. Check the graph on mouse over on the process
6. Check the information about the computer
7. Check the performance index – Good, Poor, Excellent
Test Case 26 – Smart Scheduling
1. Select the Expert View, the General section, Optimizer Tab and select a task to be run when CPU is idle.
2. In order for the computer to enter idle state leave the mouse and the keyboard and do not interfere in the computer’s activity for the specified amount of time
3. Check if it is started when it should start
4. Check it is paused when the computer exists the idle state
5. Check if it is resumed when it enters again in the idle state

| Firewall Test Cases Test case 31 - Enable/disable Firewall
1. In Expert View, click Firewall, then Programs and Reset Rules.
2. In the Intermediate View, click Security, then Configure Firewall.
3. Disable Firewall for 5 minutes.
4. Open some browsers (messenger clients, e-mail clients) and connect to the internet.
5. After 5 minutes Firewall should automatically enable. All the applications started meanwhile firewall was off should generate an alert.
Test case 32 - Checking Firewall for False Positives
1. Go to Expert View, click Firewall. Make sure the Protection Level is set to “Allow Known Programs”. Then, go to Programs and click Reset Rules.
2. Start all you common applications which require web access: browsers, IM clients, torrent clients, games, etc. Firewall should recognize all popular applications, and should automatically add a new rule for each one.
Test case 33 - Add a New Firewall rule.
1. In Intermediate View, click Security, then Configure Firewall.
2. Under the Programs tab click Browse, and search for an application (a browser for example). Remember, you can reset the previous created rules from Expert View, as presented in Test cases 1 and 2.
3. Add the selected program with the Allow action. Start the browser and access a web page. The web site should load.
4. Change the action from Allow to Block. Try a different web page. Your browser should time out.
Test case 34 - Checking Protection Level Slider
1. In Intermediate View, click Security, then Configure Firewall.
2. Reset Firewall Rules, as presented in Test cases 1 and 2.
3. Set the Protection Level consecutively to all levels. Monitor Firewall behavior, based on the explanation for each level.
Test case 35 - Check Expert View vs. Intermediate View
1. In Expert View click Firewall, then Programs. Reset rules. Add several rules for single application (your default browser, for example). Set different options for each rule. Set at least one rule with Allow action and one with Deny action.
2. Go to Intermediate View, Security, Configure Firewall. You should see your browser in the Programs tab set with the action Custom.
3. Set the action to Allow.
4. Go back to Expert Mode. All previous rules for the selected browser should be replaced by a single rule with the Allow action set.

| Parental Control Test Cases Test Case 21 - Enabling Parental Control
1. From Intermediate or Advanced Views, click on the Parental Control module.
2. Observe if all the Windows Accounts configured on your PC are displayed here.
3. Create one or more Windows Accounts with restricted rights.
4. Observe if the newly created user(s) are displayed in the Parental Control user list.
5. Enable Parental Control for one of the users and select the appropriate age category.
6. Click the Settings button corresponding to that user and enable Wen, Application and Time limiter from the Parental Control Settings.
Test Case 22 - Web Control
1. From the administrator account, click the “Block Web Site” button in the Web tab and add a site that you wish to block.
2. Log-in the Windows Account you selected at Test Case #21 and verify that the blocked website does not load.
Note: Using the standard settings for your browser, already visited websites are loaded from your local cache and therefore there will be no web(HTTP) traffic that can be filtered by Parental Control. In order to avoid this, we recommend clearing your web browser cache before stating to test Parental Control.
Test Case 23 - Applications Control
1. From the administrator account, click the "Block Application" button in the Applications Tab. In the Application Control wizard type in or browse for the name of a local executable file that you wish to prevent from running.
2. Log-in the Windows Account you selected at Test Case #21 and verify that running the blocked program will trigger a BitDefender Alert and that the application is blocked from running.
3. In the “Blocked or Restricted Applications” list, click on the Edit action and in the Application Control Wizard change the Action for the restricted application from “Block Permanently” to “Block based on this schedule”. Now select a schedule for the application to be blocked on and verify that, at the moments the application is not supposed to be blocked, it isn’t. E.g. If the application is supposed to be blocked between 12:00 and 13:00 the application is allowed to be executed at 13:05.
Test Case 24 - Time Limiter
1. From the administrator account, in the Time Limiter Tab select the option to Customize Access and select “Configure Schedule”. Using your mouse, select a time interval in which you want to block Internet access.
2. Log-in the Windows Account you selected at Test Case #21 and verify that during that time interval, you can’t access any web page or connect to the Internet using your favorite instant messaging software.
NEW! Test Case 25 - Remote Parental Control
1. From the Parental Control windows, enable Remote Parental Control.
2. Make sure that Parental Control is enabled and configured on a Windows Account as described in test cases 22, 23 and 24. Log-in that account and test the blocking capabilities.
3. Log-in as an administrator and go to the Parental Control window. Click on the “Go to my account”. This will open the browser to http://myaccount.bitdefender.com.
4. Log-in with your BitDefender Account. Select the Parental Control tab.
5. From the Parental Control tab on http://myaccount.bitdefender.com make sure that all the Windows Accounts configured on your PC are displayed on this page.
6. Select the user name on which you have tested Test Case#22, #23, #24. Click on “Recent Activity” and check if all events are displayed here (please note that the last 7 days events are displayed here).
7. Click on Settings and configure the Remote Parental Control to block a website. Wait for 15 minutes and check if the website is blocked by the product when logged-in with that Windows Account.
8. Click on Pending Actions in the My Account website. The changes in parental control settings should be here until are processed on the computer with BitDefender installed.
