Just imagine, before you say a word, you tell others that your English is poor. How can you convince them and yourself?
Besides, when communicating with the Germans, they can understand some of the mistakes you make cos English is not their mother tongue, either. The reason why we speak in English is that we can understand each other by using English. So, if the mistakes don't block our understanding, we may not care too much about the grammatical problem. And we ought not to say "my English is poor", it also shows a lack of confidence.
