The beta period of Norman Endpoint Protection (NPRO) with EndpointManager (NEM) is coming to the end. Today we will release a new set ofupdates that will fix many of the reported issues and introduce few newfeatures and upgrades.
Those updates are supposed to increase the stability andfunctionality of Endpoint Protection and we are considering thisversion to be a Release Candidate. Additionally, the RC version isbeing released with the latest translations for all languages NEM willsupport.
There are three things we need to make clear with this update:
1. Before you update, make sure you have selected all the OSplatforms you are using in your setup (both server and clients) underNEM Products Platforms, so that you get all the required updates.
2. This release requires a reboot, but due to an error in thecomponent that controls some of our services you may not be asked toreboot but will see a message over the Norman tray icon saying “Zandais not running”.
You can reload zanda by running “zanda –load”, alternatively runit as a remote command from the NEM (“npmbinzanda” with paramenter“-load”), then you will get the reboot dialog. Alternatively themachines could be rebooted when you see the error message.
3. We encourage you all to check the language translation for yourlanguage and report any direct errors or shortcomings that you mayexperience. When reporting a translation issue you need to selectcategory/type “Translation” under case information tab.
Please do not report at this moment any suggestions or alternativetranslations as this will be revised at a later stage during generalimprovements. To be able to change language you have to download thelocalized update first, make sure you have selected the languages youwant to use under NEM Products Languages.
The Release Candidate version is the final version of the NPROproduct as it will look in version 1.0. Changes to GUI, new featuresand others add-ons will be avoided before the final release – the focusnow is to check language translations and correct errors in existingfunctionality.
The following is a list of the issues that have been addressed:
1. A policy should now show all components, even though they arenot installed on NEM server. Strings (text) should never be missingwhen components are removed.
2. Platforms that are not supported are removed from Products Platforms
3. Running Internet Update or Update Selected Products underProduct functions now works when started trough a remote connected,e.g. remote desktop. One will not see the local pop-up window but itwon’t generate an error in NEM as earlier.
4. NIU will now run automatically on NEM and download updates.
5. Some issues with text display in languages others then English have been fixed.
6. Error leading to language not being changed on a client is fixed.
7. Correct information provided regarding install state of a component under client properties window.
8. DNS name removed if no IP exists for the specific name
9. DNS name is returned before NetBIOS name.
10. Fixed the logic where user settings on clients that wereallowed to configure their NPRO installations could get overwritten.
11. File name and path added to the NEM messages and error log when virus detected on a client.
12. Certain text strings and titles changed to better reflect functionality.
13. Internet Protection settings regrouped more logically
14. Fixed saving when task list is empty
15. Fixed e-mail validation
16. Added few more texts and modified existing ones concerning OA scanner setup
17. Added texts Normal and Extended
18. Tightened the top and menu layout a bit to allow for more space for the content
19. Layout for OA settings changed a bit
20. Improved client status view so it updates correctly
21. Fixed validation of distribution folder under Import
22. Made sure pop-ups are centered in the window
23. Fixed tooltip strings
24. + many other issues
As mentioned above, we feel now that NPRO and NEM are ready toenter the Release Candidate version, considering the fixes andimprovements that have been addresses since the first official betarelease. Other issues will be addressed continuously.
We are again using the opportunity to thank all of you for testingand sending us feedback on the Endpoint Protection product. We havereceived a lot of valuable feedback, and we are looking forward to yourcontinued testing and support.
